PORTRAIT JAN 29th
My piece depicts a portrait of Kim Namjoon a Korean artist, the most used element in this piece is value and the title of my work is "first attempt".
To create this piece i mapped everything out then i begin shading and after that i contrasted the shading, the media i used in this piece was drawing pencils i mostly used the B and H pencils.
My inspiration for this piece was the respect i have for Namjoon because i love the lyrics he writes and the songs he makes i feel inspired by his work. The emotion i tried to portray on my piece was happiness and peacefulness.
My goal as an artist was to create a realistic portrait and get better at realism in my pieces. I felt like i did reach my goal because i have done better realism then i have done on any of my other drawings in the past.
By creating this piece i have learned that i need to use more contrasting in my shading. I do like the piece i have created because i believe that my shading and values were done nicely and it wasn't as bad as i thought it would be. I will use what i learned on this piece of work by remembering how to draw (a) realistic eye, hair and face.
MASTER STYLE FEB 13th
My artwork is a landscape in the style realism. The artist i got my inspiration from was Bob Ross. The title of my piece is "A warm winter night". I tried my best to make it as realist as i wanted by having texture and contrast.
To create my piece i used acrylic paint. I mixed all the colors i needed and wanted. I started with the sky/background first and worked my way to the front. After that i added all the little details i needed.
I chose Bob Ross as my inspiration because all of his pieces are very beautiful and realistic landscapes. I often watch his old show at home and try to "replicate" his paintings.
My goals as a painter are to become less sloppy, fix up my lines, and become more realistic. I believe that this piece helped me get closer to that goal. It helped me get closer by helping me practice the realism and by letting me take the time to clean it up.
I learned that taking your time to clean up your lines can really help your piece and make it look at lot better.
OIL PASTEL FEB 25th
CROSS CONTOUR MAR 7th
My piece shows a girl with big, fiery, and warm colored hair but her skin is blue, a cold color. The movement i used in this piece is in her hair to make it look like it is sticking up in different directions. I also used shading on her face.
This piece was made with oil pastels. I tried pressing harder and softer with the pastel to help create the shading. I used a blending stump to clean up the lines and the orange in her hair.
The inspiration for my piece was a picture i saw online, i changed it around to make it my own. I also really like pieces of art where it mixes warm and cold colors to make things pop out at you so that's what i did with the girls hair.
My goal was to mix realism with unrealistic colors. I have never used oil pastels before so my main goal was to make sure my piece was clean and not badly colored in.
I think that my piece turned out better than imagined. I believed my piece would look just "ok" due to my lack of knowledge and experience. I want to use oil pastels in the future because i am really happy with how my piece turned out.
WATERCOLOR MAR 20th
This piece shows a dark city at night under a full mood made by watercolor, the buildings show a foreground, mid-ground, and background. Most of the piece is in gray and black so to make it more interesting to look at i put in some yellow to show light.
I made this piece using watercolor paints. The techniques i used were wet-on-wet and wet-on-dry. One the buildings at the bottom i used darker colors because they are farther away from the moonlight. The buildings at the top are lighter.
My inspiration for this piece was a picture i saw online so i made that my own by adding different buildings and adding the moon, stars, and light from the windows. My work is meant to show a dull and dark night.
My goal as an artist was to learn how to use watercolors. I may not like my piece that much but i did learn watercolor techniques which is what i think helped me reach my goal.
Overall, i dont like my piece i think its messy and ugly but i did manage to reach my goal during this project. Using the watercolor was a challenge because i dont like watercolor and ive never used it for a piece like this ive only used it as a background.
COIL POT APR 15th
For my coil pot piece i decided to use a lot of coils and added decoration in some places, for the decors i used balls, a rose, and some weirdly shaped coils. i used different techniques like slipping and scoring, wedging, and rolling the coil with your palms.
To create my piece i started out a base and slowly worked my way up. Whenever clay was going to touch clay i slipped and scored. After every new coil i smoothed out the inside to make it sturdier and make it look like its all connected on the inside.
Coil pots are something that the Native Americans made, they were my inspiration and in class that is what who wanted to follow. My work was just a pot so i didn't really try to show any type of emotions in it.
My goal was to make a sturdy, clean, smooth, and pretty coil pot. I think i did just that so yes i did reach my goal.
My overall feeling about this piece is good because i feel like it is well mad, fun to look at, and clean. I think clay will be easier to work with in the future thanks to this project.
My piece shows a girl with only have of her face showing and a watercolor background. The girl has a lot of symbols on her body to show the zodiac sign "Sagittarius" which is my sign. i think that your eyes will go to the girl first because of all the details and she stands out agianst the colorful background.
I made this piece using watercolor paints and a sharpie. i tried to use different textures in this piece by using smaller or larger lines and adding shading. for the background i did a watercolor wash with blue and purple because those are the colors of Sagittarius.
As you can probably tell by now is that my inspiration for this piece was my zodiac sign Sagittarius. I tried to use as many symbols and colors related to the sign as i could to make it stand out. A example of that would be the "archer" symbol in her eye. Also i tried to copy a Shawn coss like piece. His work has a very creepy and cool look to it and that's what i wanted to have.
My goal as an artist with this piece was to try watercolor and not have it look messy also to make a clean semi-realistic piece using pen and ink. Ive never been good with watercolors so using them in for the background was a risk that i decided to take and i am glad i took it.
Overall, my piece turned out really good and better than i imagined. Its pretty clean and i love how the girl turned out. i love the watercolor background i think it makes the piece look even better and it really makes you want to look at it, it makes the piece less boring.
COLLAGE APR 1st
This piece shows a mask in collage form. The mask is one that a band-member from "Hollywood Undead" wears. In the background i made a butterfly because that is an important symbol on a lot of his other masks.
This piece was created using ripped and cut out pieces of paper from a magazine. To make this piece i had to use a lot of little lines and even though the piece is not done an element that i used was value, on his mask i used value to show shading.
My inspiration for this piece was obviously the band "Hollywood Undead" and the band-members stage name is "Johnny 3 tears" he is my favorite out of the band. My work was meant to show how creepy but cool his mask is.
My goal as an artist was to try and get it to look as clean and as realistic as i could. I have never made a collage before so this was something new to me. I knew that it was going to be a challenge because of all the small fine lines i had in this piece.
Overall i am a little disappointing that i didnt get to finish but i did miss two days of work. I am proud of how it looks so far though and i do like how the butterfly in the background turned out.
FORESHORTENING MAY 3th
My piece shows a man in a mask looking up at you. His body is smaller than his face to show foreshortening. The man is wearing a hoodie and his mask has some design on it with blacked out eyes.
To create my piece i took a black sheet of paper, mapped out the subject matter, and then i took the prisma colors to color it in. The way i used my prisma colors was by going from the lightest color to the darkest. After all that was done i went back over it to make sure it was neat.
My inspiration for this piece was someone i have made artwork of before. My piece is based off of aband-member from the band "Hollywood undead". I used the mask of the member "Johnny 3 tears" because i really like the way it looks and he is my favorite member.
My goal for this piece was to learn how to use prisma colors and to make my subject matter look creepy and mysterious. I believe that i have reached both goals because the piece looks smooth and realistic. I also believe that it is one of my best works.
I really like the piece i have created it is my favorite one i have done so far this year. It turned out better than i thought it would. This piece made me realize that i want to use prisma colors alot in the future.
My piece was a 3D mask made out of plaster and i used acrylic to paint it. I added and took away some things on the mask some examples of that are Horns, higher cheekbones, and cut out the mouth area.
To create my piece i molded the base of the mask with plaster and waited for it to dry, after that i cut out the eye-holes, nostrils, etc. Then i added stuff to it like the horns and cheekbones. After all of that was done i painted it with acrylic.
I created this piece to show a deeper meaning. The meaning is "just because you do bad things doesn't mean your a bad person" alot of people hide behind the bad things in there life so that they don't get hurt. Some examples of that are abusing drugs, pushing people away, self-harm etc.
My only goal was to make a 3D mask without messing it up or breaking it and i feel like i have reached that goal. I feel like i will be working with plaster in the future because this piece was fun to do.
My overall thoughts for this piece are that it is good. I love how it looks and how well it is made even though when i first sketched it out it looked different i actually like it better now than how the first sketch was.
